Faughs – On way to Croker 2019

Date

On Sunday all roads led to Dublin. Three buses docked at sun rise in Castle Ellis to ferry the three teams of hurlers who were bound for Faughs GAA. The U9s, U11s & U13s took on the Templeogue side in a marathon of games. Both the U13 A and B teams were in action and victorious in their games. The U11s divided into those born in 2008 and 2009 to play their rivals. These were tight, competitive games which both player and mentor relished. The U9s had two teams also and a great contest between the clubs ensued. The teams and entourage were treated to an abundance of sandwiches, home-baking, teas, coffees and crisps. In return, Niall from Young Irelands presented Tom Curran from Faughs GAA with a signed hurl bearing the Gowran GAA crest. Croke Park was the next port-of-call and the Davin Stand was awash with the Young Ireland squad. Though not the result we were hoping for… the fun, banter and craic was epic. The highlight of the day was cheering on Billy, Cian and Sam who were playing at half time and represented the club so well against the Wexford players. KFC and Supermacs filled hungry tummies enroute home in Carlow. What a day for our Club, what a task for all the mentors who took 138 players, parents and siblings for a day none will forget. Teams bonded, memories were made – this is GAA at it’s best, grass roots level; players, friends, neighbours, club!
